The University of Houston (UH) is a public research university located in Houston, Texas, United States. It is the flagship institution of the University of Houston System. Founded in 1927, UH is the third-largest university in Texas with nearly 44,000 students. It offers over 300 programs of study across 12 academic colleges, including such renowned programs as the Bauer College of Business, the College of Education, the College of Engineering, the Honors College and the College of the Arts.

UH is ranked among the top tier of research universities in the United States, with a Carnegie Classification of Research University (High Research Activity). The university has an acceptance rate of 63%, making it slightly more selective than the average public university. UH offers a variety of scholarships, including merit-based, need-based, departmental, and special awards.
